Cornhole Tournament raises $15,000-plus!
Sept. 17th event at Irondequoit Sports Center was a huge success!
After at two-year, COVID-induced hiatus, the WIF Cornhole Tournament returned in a big way on Sept. 17, 2022. The competition took place in a new venue for our third Cornhole event, the Irondequoit Sports Center, and the field of 32 teams included West Irondequoit CSD administrators, teachers, coaches and staff members. Former district employees and other community members also played. The winning team was PAWS Cornhole Warriors (Jake Phommala and Johnny Velasquez), who donated a portion of their $750 first prize back to the Foundation! You can see more results below and a list of our great sponsors at right.
Thank you to all who participated, planned or volunteered to make the event a success! Projections are that more than $15,000 was raised for our non-profit organization that supports teacher- and-staff-initiated grants for West Irondequoit schools. Special thanks to major sponsor, Karla Fichter and Diamond Packaging, Rising Storm Brewing Co. and Chick-filA of Irondequoit. Finally, thank you to the House of Guitars and former Irondequoit HS boys basketball coach and former WICSD physical education teacher, Chris Cardon. He bid $400 to win an auction of the Lou Gramm-autographed, Les Paul guitar and surprised his wife, a huge Gramm fan, with it. The HOG donated the guitar to the Foundation.
WINNING TEAM ($750): Jake Phommala & Johnny Velasquez, PAWS Cornhole Warriors.
RUNNER-UP ($250): Andy & Mike Hinds, Rising Storm Brewing Company.
3RD PLACE ($125): Dale Clegg & Joe Pfenninger, J.D. Associates.
THANK YOU, IRONDEQUOIT SPORTS CENTER!
